  • Paper Arts One-Day Workshops

    Maggie offers a number of one-day paper arts workshops. For more information or to register for a workshop, e-mail Maggie at paperarts@mmcgovern.com.

    All materials are provided. A list of tools used is available in case you have some of your own or want to purchase them in advance of a workshop. A small number of tools will be available for sharing.

    Workshops are offered at Maggie’s home in Kinburn, and are limited to five participants. A minimum of three participants is required for a workshop to run. Maggie can also arrange a customized workshop for you and your friends. Coffee, tea and snacks are provided. Bring your own lunch. Also note that there are cats in residence. While they will not be participating in the workshops, they may be problematic for those with allergies.

    Paper and Gem Jewellery

    Learn paper and wire wrapping techniques. Make two pairs of earrings or a pair of earrings and a pendant. A great starter course – no experience required and mistakes can be easily overcome.

    Jewel-Stone Box

    Make a box with fitted lid. New box makers will make a standard-size box with gemstone and wire embellishments. Experienced box makers can choose the size and Maggie will help with all the measurements.

    Introduction to Bookbinding:

    Simple Book Structures

    There are many techniques for creating books using just folding and pasting. You can also create small books using variations of the pamphlet stitch. In this workshop, we’ll try out as many styles as time allows, but you will complete at least four small books.

    Coptic-Stitched Journal

    The beauty of this style of binding is that it opens flat. Create a 5 x 7 inch journal using a multiple-needle Coptic stitch. The journal includes five signatures of quality writing paper.

    Open Book Box with Slipcase

    book

    Turned on its side, this design also works as a drawer-style jewellery or trinket box. The challenge with this style is getting the fit just right. Some box-making experience required.
